HOLY SPIRIT THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
A Pastoral Formation Program is available in each provincial community of the Province of the Holy Spirit. The local diocesan seminaries are patterned after the ancient practice of the “bishop’s” or “abbot’s” schools. In the early medieval period, before general education, universities and seminaries, leaders of Christian communities trained others for ministry to the diaconate and priesthood in a local setting.
The Diocese of the Holy Spirit has renewed the vision which allows people to train within their local communities and to receive a high quality, academically demanding and professional instruction in ministry.
When the council of Trent convened in June, 1546, the provision was made in every diocese for the education of candidates for ordained ministry.
The Twenty-third Session of the Council of Trent solemnly proclaimed the present form, which has ever since remained the fundamental law of the Church on the education of priests.
The Diocese of the Holy Spirit operates Holy Spirit Theological Seminary in Nashville, Tennessee for candidates to Holy Orders in diocesan communities. Holy Spirit Seminary is partnered with Sacred Heart Seminary to provide the highest quality seminary training to all candidates to Holy Orders.
