THE CHURCH IN NORTHWEST FLORIDA  DEVELOPS FRESH MINISTRY FOCUS
The parishes and ministries of the Archdiocese of the Holy Spirit in Northwest Florida completed their annual diocesan convention on May 18, 2010. After much prayer, mutual discernment and discussion, the Church has decided to adopt a fresh and dynamic approach to ministry beginning this Summer.

The Rev. Jonathan Phillips, Vicar General of the Community, will lead the Church in implementating a more "community-based" approach to ministry, rather than the tradtional "parochial-based" model. The Church in Northwest Florida has been organized as the Diocese of Saint Mary for some time. The Church will now be identified as the United Free Catholic Community of Northwest Florida.

Considering the seasonal character of church attendance and activities that are normal in the area served by the Church in Northwest Florida, the community based model of ministry will be more adaptable and dynamic than the model previously employed. Church attendance in the area peaks during the winter months, due to a large number of people migrating to the area from colder climates. During the summer months, regular attendance and parochial activities decline because of the absence of many of the participants.

The community based ministry approach will provide opportunities for those attending and participating in Church activities year round, such as permanent residents, to participate and represent the Church in a wider area of ministry opportunities.

The Church has already started regular "preaching stations", once commonly known throughout the Anglican mission territories, in communities throughout the area. Participation in local homeless, relief and social justice projects are also part of the ministry focus.

Visit the Community website for more information on this exciting and fresh ministry. [Click here...]
